TODAY, 7 YEARS AGO, EMINEM’S “RELAPSE” WON GRAMMY FOR ‘BEST RAP ALBUM’

2010: Eminem took home the Grammy for Best Rap Album at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards on Jan. 31, 2010.
Em’s 2009 album Relapse proved to be a pivotal album in the Rap God’s career. After canceling a tour, spiraling out of control on a drug addiction, stumbling through an 11-week remarriage to his former wife Kim and mourning the death of his hometown friend DeShaun ‘Proof’ Holton all within the span of a three-year period, the Detroit MC checked himself into a rehab program to clear his mind and channel his pain into lyrics. The resulting 20-track album of Relapse was filled with honest, painstaking and gritty storytelling from Em’s alter-ego Slim Shady.
Relapse debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 610,000 copies in the first week and received positive reviews from fans and critics. On Grammy night in 2010, the LP was up against Common’s Universal Mind Control, Flo Rida’s R.O.O.T.S., Mos Def’s The Ecstatic and Q-Tip’s The Renaissance in the Best Rap Album category.
Though Eminem performed at the ceremony with Lil Wayne, Drake and drummer Travis Barker, he did not accept the award during the televised program. This 2010 award brought Em’s golden gramophone tally to 11.

Eminem, is set to release his new album this year named “Success”. The album will feature 21 tracks from various artists and the album is expected to release this year
The details for the new album have been leaked but they are unofficial and can change when the album is actually available on shelves. The ninth studio album of Eminem is expected to hit the shelves in January and the track listing has been released by a Reddit user, as reported by IBTimes. The leaked document however is not signed but comes from Universal Music Group’s headquarters. The track listing for the new album includes – “This is It”, “Superstar”, “Imprisonment”, “Take Me Away”, “Everyday” (Feat. Chance the Rapper), “Looking for Freedom”, “Something Has Changed” (Feat. Kid Cudi), “Confused”, “Rain”, “Success” (Feat. Adele), “Fighter”, “Sins of a Prayer”, “Bulletproof” (Feat. Mastein Bennett), “Sunshine”, “Black Roses” (Feat. The Weeknd), “Nightmare”, “Ladies and Gentleman” (Feat. Vince Staples), “Hurts Really Bad”, “It’s Hard”, “Lie Down”and “Rest” .
The 21-track album lists various artists who are speculated to perform with Eminem. These articles include Adele, The Weeknd and Kid Cudi. The alleged producers of the album includes big names such as Dr. Dre, Rick Rubin, The Alchemist and DJ Michael Keenan.
The artist had teased about his new album way back in October last year when he had uploaded a video titled ‘Campaign Speech’. Along with the video, he had asked his fans not to worry and wait as he is working on his new album, reports Tripped Media.
The rap star had released his last album Marshal Mathers LP 2 in 2013 and it seems his fans will have to wait for another month or two for the new album. It has been four years since Eminem came out with a new album, so it is understandable that his fans must be waiting eagerly for his new album.

For 12 years, VH1’s “Hip Hop Honors” has paid homage to legendary hip-hop figures, from Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur to Big Daddy Kane. For their sixth show, which taped at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (and airs on VH1 on October 13, 2009), the event’s organizers dedicated the entire program to a record label, the trailblazing house for hip-hop and R&B, Def Jam.
It’s only right that the first Def Jam artist to be honored was the label’s foundation and face for so many years, legendary LL Cool J.
The Roots started it off with “Rock the Bells.” Black Thought ripped the first verse of the record, then gave way for a special guest: Eminem. In 2008, Slim Shady publicly expressed his love for LL during a phone prank on DJ Tony Touch’s Shade 45 radio show.
Spitting the second verse of “Rock the Bells,” Eminem sounded almost exactly like the legend who inspired him.
“Now I’m worldwide known/ Whether you like it or not/ My one-man band is Cut Creator…/ When he’s on the fader/ What’s my DJ’s name?” raps Eminem. You can watch the live performance in HD below:
